Welcome to YA Scavenger Hunt!YA_ScavengerHunt_WebBanner

I’m so excited to be participating in this year’s spring YA Scavenger Hunt!

In case we haven’t met before, I’m Madeline Dyer, author Untamed, a dystopian novel for young adults, from Prizm Books/Torquere Press.

And I’m on Team Red with some aYASH-RED-TEAM-SPRING-2016mazing authors! Each of us is hosting another author’s exclusive content for the duration of this event, so if you’ve come here looking to find my exclusive content (the inspiration boards for Untamed), you’ll have to keep hunting and find out which author is hosting me!

So, about the YA Scavenger Hunt…

This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!
Red TeamGo to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are eight contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the RED TEAM–but there is also a blue team, an orange team, a gold team, a green team, a teal team, a blue team, a purple team, and a pink team for a chance to win a whole different set of books!

SCAVENGER HUNT POST

I am super excited to be hosting…. Michelle Andreani and Mindi Scott for the YA Scavenger Hunt!

mnm-author-shoot-2447

Michelle Andreani and Mindi Scott are novelists from opposite coasts who met through an online writing class. For years, they critiqued each other’s manuscripts, and then they wrote an entire book together—all while exchanging thousands and thousands (oh, and thousands) of emails, texts, and Tweets. Michelle lives in New York City and Mindi lives near Seattle.

Find out more information by checking out the author website or find more about their book here! (You should definitely go and buy 27 copies of their book!)

y648For fans of Jenny Han and Morgan Matson, a witty, poignant novel about second chances, letting go, and the unbreakable bonds of friendship.
Six months ago, Ashlyn Montiel died in a bike accident. Her best friend, Cloudy, is keeping it together, at least on the outside. Cloudy’s insides are a different story: tangled, confused, heartbroken.
Kyle is falling apart, and everyone can tell. Ashlyn was his girlfriend, and when she died, a part of him went with her. Maybe the only part he cares about anymore.
As the two people who loved Ashlyn best, Cloudy and Kyle should be able to lean on each other. But after a terrible mistake last year, they’re barely speaking. So when Cloudy discovers that Ashlyn’s organs were donated after her death and the Montiel family has been in touch with three of the recipients, she does something a little bit crazy and a lot out of character: she steals the letters and convinces Kyle to go on a winter break road trip with her, from Oregon to California to Arizona to Nevada. Maybe if they see the recipients—the people whose lives were saved by Ashlyn’s death—the world will open up again.
Or maybe it will be a huge mistake.

EXCLUSIVE CONTENT

While writing THE WAY BACK TO YOU, we had an idea for a chapter to take place at an Arizona gift shop where our protagonists, Kyle and Claudia (whose nickname is “Cloudy”), would come across souvenirs with their names on them.

In real life, “Kyle” is super easy to find. “Claudia”? Not so much. In fact, we were warned by a Claudia (via Twitter) that she had never found her own name on a souvenir in a gift shop. This was concerning because we wanted to keep this chapter, but it was important to us that what we were writing was realistic.

So we began searching. Whenever either of us was in a shop that included displays of personalized pens, key chains, magnets, notepads, pocketknives, etc., we looked for “Claudia.” We looked and we looked and we looked. And eventually . . . we found.

Claudias of the world, items with your name do exist! In New York! In Orlando! In San Francisco! On the Washington coast! We even spotted “Kyle” and “Claudia” license plates while we were in Seattle together! See?

With these discoveries, we were able to create the chapter we’d been envisioning without worry. Hooray! If only we could now get over the compulsion to continue looking for “Claudia” whenever we’re out. . . .

THE WAY BACK TO YOU will be available on May 3, 2015 from HarperCollins/Katherine Tegen Books. In the meantime, you can check out more from our Words on Things collection on Pinterest.

And don’t forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of signed books by me, Michelle Andreani and Mindi Scott, and more! To enter, you need to know that my favourite number is 27. Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the red team and you’ll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize!

To keep going on your quest for the hunt, you need to check out the next author: Lucy D. Briand.
