Author Interview With Hazel Robinson

Today, we have an author interview with Hazel Robinson, and check back on August 28th 2013 for an excerpt from Hazel’s latest novel.

091352So, what exactly do you write?

Well I’m currently working on my first novel which is  new contemporary romance.

How would you describe yourself in a short third person bio?

Hazel lives in the small town of Rishton in Lancashire with her husband and three children. As a full time housewife she splits her time between looking after her three children and writing or reading, been a keen reader of paranormal and contemporary romance gave her the inspiration to start working on her own novel. she loves spending time with her family on trips out, walks, exploring and anything adventurous.

What made you initially want to write? Has your motivation changed since then?

after staring to read a book by author A.L.Jackson and getting to know the author i fell in love with her type of writing, she has a way of finding all your emotions and pulling at each and every one she can make your heart melt in an instant and i thought i want to be able to make people do that. i had the story in my head for a long time  she just made me determined to write it.

What do you think is the most important part of writing?

i think the most important thing about writing is that you have got to love what you write, you have to have fire and passion in it, if you don’t like it why will others? you shouldn’t feel like you have to write you should want to for yourself. i love seeing my character’s grow and come to life its like having babies you give them life and nurture them and set them into the world.

What is your favourite part of writing?

so far my favourite part of writing is helping my characters grow Ive seen them go through a lot and come out the other side. between you and me i love the powerful connection my characters have i get giddy writing the next chapters.

Tell us an interesting fact about you.

ha ha i am a massive supernatural fan, and i mean massive i have never missed an episode even when i was in hospital after my daughter was born i watched it in the hospital. I’m addicted to it, vampire diaries too i love them both sooo much.

Do you have a day-job, (other than writing)?

no luckily for me i worked really had when my two eldest children where little hardly spending any time with them and with my youngest i thought i would stay at home with him until he heads of to school, its a hard decision but i missed a lot of the baby years and didn’t want to do it again.

Do you prefer a physical book or an eBook? Why?

oh i absolutely prefer holding the book in my hand, i love the excitement of when you only have a couple of pages to go, with ebooks you don’t get that yes they are convenient and i have a kindle but there is nothing like the smell of a new book my husband is always telling me off for buying new books when i have a kindle.

Something MissingTell us about your latest novel.

currently I’m working on something missing a  tragic romance with Max and Susan who every time they seem to be heading in the right direction together something knocks them off the path, its hard to write their story because i want them to be happy together but they always seem to have tragedy looming.

So, how long, on average, does it take you to complete a first draft of a book?

well from when i started to now has been six months and my first draft went out the window the story didn’t feel right so now i just switch off and right what my characters tell me too and I’m almost ready for the world to read it. my deadline is October.

Which projects are you working on at the moment?

I’m working on a series called the true love series, something missing is the first in the series and i already have the next two planned out ready to start each story with be very different but with the same out come that true love can happen for anyone in different ways some will end happy some might not so watch this space!!

How do you come up with the titles for your books? And do you have the final title before completing your book, or after?

well something missing isn’t the original name i changed it from take my heart because Max and Susan have always had something missing between them.. each other neither can be complete with out each other so it fitted better so yes i have the title before i have finished.

How has writing changed your life?

i wouldn’t say writing has changed my life I’m more in touch with myself for a long time i lost myself in the life of mother and wife and now i have writing i can shut that out and be hazel again it gives me a focus point. i love the social life of writing all the new interesting people you meet through social media is awesome.

Where do you get inspiration for writing from? Do you listen to music whilst writing or have a ‘writing cave’?

music!! the minute i open my laptop i drift into another world, i have different play lists for different scenes currently tragic love songs are the most played my writing cave is in my head.

Is there a particular form, style or genre that you’d like to have a go at writing? Why?

i would love to write a horror something along the lines of Stephen king, spine tingling horror one of the books in the true love series with have a haunting twist to it but I’m not saying which.

Favourite book and/or author(s)?

no brainer take this regret by A.L.Jackson that’s the one that started me on the road to writing such a powerful story.

Do you think it’s necessary to have a degree (of any sort) in order to be a successful author?

no  i think if you have something deep inside you want to let out dot let education get in your way, it doesn’t matter what degrees you have or anything it matters if you have that passion burning inside.

What would you say to those who want to become a writer? Any advice?

go for it if you have a story your passionate about and you want to share it then go for it there is a lot of help along the way, i have alot of different people i can go to for advise and help and i have never met these people the writer/author world is an amazing big family everyone helps everyone out so don’t put it off get your laptop out and write it.

Thank you very much for your time.
