Hi Amy! I was so excited when I saw this question, because, as a dystopian writer, one of the things people frequently ask me about is how I create such worlds.

Luckily for you, I was asked to write a guest post all about this in 2015 for the Books and Pallettes website, just before my first novel, Untamed, released.

So, I just wanted to point you in the direction of my article: How To Craft A Believable Dystopian World.

This guest post covers how to create the foundations of a dystopian society, the importance of the society’s history, and how to create a believable societal system. It really is a very detailed article, covering almost everything you need to know about creating a believable dystopian world, so it’s impossible to really power-phrase here. So, please do take a look at it

Another article that I wrote about dystopian world building is this one: How Dystopian Fiction Draws From Current Events, which was published on author Lyn Miller-Lachmann’s website. Please on the link above, or the image below to read this article.

This article is less about the ‘how-tos’ of world building and more about the importance of the relationship between a fictitious dystopian society and the real world. It’s definitely an important thing to consider when creating a dystopia.

Please do read it and let me know what you think!
