My Autumn Project: ‘The Rogue Soul’ – Soul-Eaters #1

Ok, so my spring and summer projects were finishing drafts 1-5 of Spirit Of Fire, and planning out its sequel, and two new books. I have achieved all of this by the 4th september 2012. Which means that I have now started my new project.

Today I drafted out the synopsis, and blurb, for a new YA dystopian fantasy novel, at the moment called ‘The Rogue Soul’. It is the first novel in the ‘Soul-Eaters’ series.

This novel actually originated from a conversation that I was having with one of my twitter friends, @EponaReviews (writer and reviewer), where we decided we’d both write a book based on our life, but we chose each other’s genre. And she chose dystopian/apocolypic/zombie for me. And I’m really excited about it.

Although we originally said they’d be based on our lives, this was changed pretty quickly (at least for me). After all, my life’s boring. So, this book has no resemblance to my life at all, other than being set on a farm. But then they say ‘wrte what you know’, right? And anyway, the genre isn’t exactly one that happens in real life; zombies don’t exist…

This book couldn’t be further from my life if I tried! A complete entire new work of fiction. Actually, I’ve borrowed one of the characters who was originally in the first draft of Spirit Of Fire, but didn’t make it to the second draft. This character (Izzy) felt so real to me, and demanded to have her own story. This is it.

Although, having said that, Izzy is not the narrator. Her cousin, Tessa is. But, I feel this works really well.

But, if it hadn’t been for my conversation with Charlotte, I don’t think that I would ever be able to see myself writing a zombie novel. It’s a challenge–something I wouldn’t normally do… But, it’s good to stretch yourself, right?

I hope to have this first draft of ‘The Rogue Soul’ finished by the end of November. And once that it’s done, I’ll be doing the final read-through of ‘Spirit Of Fire’ before sending that off to my list of agents. Exciting times!

And, on the days when I don’t feel like writing anything to do with TRS, I may jump ahead of schedule and do some more work on ‘Blood Of The Phoenix’ (Spirit Of Fire #2) or ‘The Luna Shadows Of Darkness’ (Witches Of The Cold Lands #1). So, either way, I’ll be having a busy Autumn writing.

Which projects do you plan to work on?
