Writing is a Journey

Writing is a journey. For me, it’s starting somewhere and not knowing where you’ll end up. It’s exploring and having fun, and seeing where the words take you. I don’t outline, because if I do, I know where I’m going and I feel like I’ve already written the story so then I’m not invested. I need the joy of the discovery, the excitement of not knowing, and the fun of seeing what happens.

This photo is from a recent walk on the moors that Michael and I did. We were walking through complete fog, following a guidebook that encouraged us to orientate ourselves by looking around at the views and the landmarks. We couldn’t see a thing until the fog lifted toward the end of our hike—and we were at the end of our walk then—and it was amazing, suddenly seeing how far we’d gone.
