“What are you making doe eyes at him again for?” Dayna sneered, placing her tiny hands on her hips.
“P-p-pardon?” Jasna stuttered in surprise and a look of confusion marred her gentle features.
“P-p-pardon?” mocked Dayna derisively. “I said, what are you making doe eyes at him again for?”
“I-I’m not. We’re only talking – what’s wrong with that?” Jasna replied, her voice small, her expression wary.
“Yes you were. Do you really think an ugly fat cow like you would stand a chance with someone like him? Just look at yourself. What on earth would he find attractive about you? He probably wouldn’t fancy you if you were the last immortal female left on the planet!” the contemptuous tone in Dayna’s voice was shards of glass piercing Jasna’s heart.
Before Joshua had a chance to defend her, Jasna’s face crumpled in agony and she fled from the room, Dayna’s mocking laughter following behind her.
“What the hell was that?” Joshua growled furiously, getting out of his chair to tower over Jasna’s nemesis, continuing before Dayna had a chance to respond. “You stinking bitch! Why did you do that to her?”
“What’s it to you?” Dayna retorted, unrepentant, staring up at Joshua’s enraged face.
“She’s part of this coven, a friend and she did nothing to deserve being treated like that,” he bellowed, shaking with anger.
“Well it livened the night up a bit, don’t you think? A few minutes entertainment to relieve the boredom,” a smug smile crossed Dayna’s lips at her flippant response – a smile which rapidly faded when Joshua took a measured step towards her, his fists clenched so tightly she thought his knuckles would break through the skin.
