The Latest News From Madeline Dyer: Newsletter #1
So, a few days ago, I sent out my first ever newsletter–and I thought I’d also include it here, should anyone have missed it/not signed up in time to receive it. The next newsletter will be sent out in 4-6 weeks time–or earlier, should I have some exciting news that I just cannot wait to share–so if you’d like to receive it, you can either sign up below, or use the form in the sidebar on the right.
Hey all!
And thank you for signing up for my newsletter.
So, the last few months have been crazily busy! I’ve recently finished the latest round of pre-sub edits for FRAGMENTED, book two in the Untamed Series, (seriously that last round of edits took ages and involved a complete rewrite of the first half of the book!) and my lovely beta-readers and critique partners are currently reading it. Soon, I’ll be completing the final pre-sub round of edits, in line with their feedback, before turning the manuscript in to my publisher.
Writing book two in this series has been rather challenging for me. It’s very different to UNTAMED, but it kind of has to be. If you haven’t already read the back cover copy for FRAGMENTED, then you can find it here.
And with writing a sequel, there’s also the added factor of pressure too. I’ve heard back from so many readers who’ve loved book one, and I feel almost obligated to produce a sequel that people love just as much as they did UNTAMED, if not more. And yet, I want this book to be different too. It needs to be different. And book two is quite a lot darker than UNTAMED. The themes explored are heavier, and, of course, this affects how this story is told. Earlier this month, I wrote a quick post all about this, so if you want to find out more please take a look.
So, when will FRAGMENTED be out? Well, at the moment, I don’t know. I’m hoping to send a final pre-sub draft to my publisher by late November, and then it’s up to them. But as soon as I have a release date, I’ll be sure to let you know. (Seriously, I’ll be sharing its provisional release date everywhere).
Aside from working on this manuscript, I’m also making great progress with my secret project, which is a standalone dystopian novel. Unfortunately, I can’t say a lot about this at the moment–but I am so excited by it. It’s very different to anything that I’ve written before, and it’s been very challenging…
Also, remember how last year I wrote a NA futuristic thriller? Well, stay tuned, because I hope to share some very exciting news about that one very soon.
Now, onto UNTAMED:
I didn’t realise that even after my debut novel’s been out for three months, I’d still have a lot of new stuff to share about this book. So here’s the latest:
- Chapter One of UNTAMED can now be read on my website.
- UNTAMED is now listed on YA Books Central. This is a database-style site for recommended YA novels, where editors and readers can leave their reviews and rate books based on plot, characters, and writing style.
- I’m pleased to report that UNTAMED, has made multiple appearances on Amazon and Kobo Books bestseller lists, most recently placing at #95 for dystopian fiction on Amazon UK, in between books by Veronica Roth and Kiera Cass. Here’s proof:
- Recently, UNTAMED has received some great reviews. T.A. Maclagan, author of THEY CALL ME ALEXANDRA GASTONE says this about my book: “This book proves Dystopian is not dead. Not dead at all. Seven is a rock solid, super cool female heroine that I could root for. Dyer creates a captivating dystopian world that I can’t wait to dive into again when the series continues in book two. Supporting characters were richly drawn and the pacing was spot on. Loved it! Bring on the sequel!”
- And The Literature Hub wrote: “I really couldn’t fault Madeline Dyer. I could see the care that had been taken with the writing and the story. [… The protagonist] was quite a complex and interesting character […] For anyone struggling with identity issues themselves, Seven will more than likely be their favourite character. […] Untamed is a fantastic dystopian survival story, filled with twists.” (The Literature Hub’s full review of UNTAMED can be read here–please be aware, it does contain minor spoilers).
- And a signed copy of UNTAMED will be up for grabs as a raffle prize at this year’s YA FEST in October.
To everyone who has read/reviewed/supported UNTAMED, I’d like to say: thank you. Thank you so much. Your support means the world to me.
Madeline
P.S. I’m still figuring out exactly how my newsletters will work, so if you have any suggestions/questions, please contact me. At the moment, I’m thinking of sending a newsletter every 4-6 weeks, or whenever I have big news that I simply have to share!
