Writing Exercises – Change One Letter At A Time

This has to be one of my favourite writing exercises to do. I try to limit the number of times I do it a week to only once or twice, because I don’t want to over use it.

What You’ll Need:
Paper and pen (or a computer with a word processor)
Dictionary (optional)

Time: Flexible – you simply stop when you can’t think or find another word.
Difficulty: Easy-Medium (the longer the words the harder it is)

Instructions:

Start with one word that you’ve picked at random, the change one letter (and one letter only) to make a new word. Then with your new word, change one of its letters to create another new word, and keep going. When you can’t think of another word you either end the exercise or start with a new word.

Rules:
– All of the words have to be in the dictionary
– No made up words
– Every word should have the same amount of letters and be w=one letter different from the one either side.
– You can’t use the same word twice.

Writing exercises are a good way to improve your writing and to stimulate your mind before you start writing for the day. This particulart game helps to improve your vocabularly.
