YA Books You should Have Read
So, I thought I’d write a quick post about my favourite YA books – books that you should definitely read if you haven’t already.
First off, is the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead, starting with book 1, ‘Vampire Academy’. I absolutely love these books! The main character, Rose, is a very strong, independent, female-lead and I must admit that I really admire Mead for creating such a fantastic, relatable character. The other week, however, I read a review about the first book in which the reader Rose just to be very annoying; I couldn’t disagree more!
And talking of Richelle Mead’s work, you should have all read ‘Bloodlines’, book 1 of the spin-off series to Vampire Academy. It. Is. Amazing. And book 2, ‘The Golden Lily’, comes out in less than two weeks!
Now, talking about vampires, let’s move onto the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine. Indeed, I’ve just finished book 12 (‘Black Dawn’) which I absolutely love. Rachel Caine is a genius, no question about it. I really want to tell you everything about this book, but I do try to not give away any spoilers, so I can’t. But this should definitely be at the top of your to-read list.
Another good vampire series is The House Of Night Series by mother and daughter duo, P.C and Kristin Cast. Although, I must admit that I preferred the books before they began having multiple P.O.Vs in the later books. But, still, they are good.
I’ve just started reading ‘Dark Heart Rising‘, by Lee Monroe. It’s been a while since I read the first book, ‘Dark Heart Forever’, but I remembered how much I loved it, and so, when I saw book 2 on the shelf of Smiths, I simply couldn’t resist!
The next book that I’m going to briefly talk about is one that may make some of you scream ‘oh no!’, or cringe and others cry with joy: ‘Twilight’. I really do love it. And it was the first YA fantasy book that I ever read, back in the days when I was a mere shripling. And what with all the Twilight films coming out, you should definitely have read the books by Stephenie Meyer.
Talking of films, the last film I went to see at the cinema was ‘The Hunger Games’. So, yeah, you guessed it, I want you all to read ‘The Hunger Games‘ Trilogy if you haven’t already. It is superb and Suzanne Collins is an amazing writer.
So, what’s the next YA book you’re going to talk about, I hear you ask. Well, I’m glad you did ask, because ‘Angel’ by Lee Weatherly has to be one of my all-time favourites. As is the sequel ‘Angel Fire’. I just love them both so, so much!
And ‘Night School‘, by CJ Daugherty (Check out the interview I did with her!) should also be on your to-read list.
Malorie Blackman’s ‘Boys Don’t Cry‘ is another equally good read. I got it for Christmas a few years ago and have been meaning to reread it for the third time sometime soon.
Some other pretty cool YA books are The Vampire Diaries series by LJ Smith, the Harry Potter books by JK Rowling and ‘Texas Gothic‘ by Rosemary Clement-Moore.
