The YA Scavenger Hunt Fall 2017

Once again, I’m thrilled to be in the YA Scavenger Hunt this fall! And for all my Untamed fans out there, there are some exclusive excerpts from Three Sarr’s journal hidden in this hunt!

This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 120 hours!

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are SEVEN contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the GREEN TEAM–but there is also a red team, a gold team, an orange team, a red team, and an indie team for a chance to win a whole different set of books!

If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page.

SCAVENGER HUNT POST
Today, I am hosting Sara Jade Alan on my website for the YA Scavenger Hunt!

Life is funny sometimes.

And not always the ha, ha kind. Like that one time where a hot guy tried to kiss me and I fell. Down. Hard. And then found out I had cancer.

I’m trying to be strong for my friends and my mom.

And I’m trying so hard to be “just friends” with that hot guy, even though he seems to want so much more. But I won’t do that to him. He’s been through this before with his family, and I’m not going to let him watch me die.

So, I tell myself: Smile Ellie. Be funny Ellie. Don’t cry Ellie, because once I start, I might not stop.

EXCLUSIVE CONTENT FROM SARA JADE ALAN

My debut YA contemporary, A Messy, Beautiful Life, releases from Entangled Teen on October 2. Here’s a bit about the story: Ellie was just voted captain of her high school’s improv comedy group, Spontaneous Combustion. When she meets Jason onstage in an improv scene that’s more sizzle than silly, she thinks life is finally starting to go her way. Enter sucker-punch from Life, stage left. So she does what any girl with a tumor in her femur would do: she enters a standup comedy contest. With the help of her improv friends, her music-obsessed stepbrother, and Jason, who’s dealing with a heartbreak of his own, Ellie searches for a lifeline through the punchlines.
I’m offering a playlist for my exclusive content because music plays an important part in the story. Ellie’s stepbrother, Craig, is a musician, and Jason used to love to sing, before his mom died. Music pumps the audience up before their improv shows. (I put “Can’t Stop The Feeling” first, as the book opens with Ellie and her friends getting ready for their first show of senior year. If you just replace the word “dance” with “improv” it perfectly describes how they feel, but of course, “improv” makes a slightly less catchy verb than “dance.”) I won’t give the reasons behind the other songs because it will give too much away, but the song that at first might not seem to fit the list (“Paloma Blanca”), is the one song that’s actually referenced in the book. It’s fun and silly, and I hope that song makes you laugh as much as it made Ellie and her friends laugh.
And here’s just the list:
1.     Can’t Stop The Feeling – Justin Timberlake
2.     Falling Slowly – Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova
3.     Believer – Imagine Dragons
4.     What We Keep – Brittain Ashford
5.     Willow Tree March – Paper Kites
6.     Never Give Up – Sia
7.     Paloma Blanca – Georgie Dann
8.     The Luckiest – Ben Folds
9.     Fix You – Cold Play
10.  Someone to You – BANNERS

And don’t forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of books by me, Sara Jade Alan, and more! To enter, you need to know that my favorite number is 77. Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the green team and you’ll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize!
